Beta Bar wins top international design award

Sydney cocktail bar Beta has won the title of ‘Best Bar, Australia & Pacific’ in the 2017 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards.

Now in their ninth year, the Restaurant & Bar Design awards recognise excellence in the design of food and beverage spaces globally.

Beta occupies the first floor of the historic Hellenic Club building on Sydney’s Castlereagh Street – above Alpha restaurant – and includes a cocktail bar and event space.

The interior of Beta was designed by DS17’s Paul Papadopoulos and blends contemporary design with the natural beauty of the original Victorian building; furniture by Italian-Danish design brand GamFratesi is another highlight of the space, contrasting with the exposed bricks and high arches of the structure.

Acclaimed London product and interior designed Lee Broom has created a striking polished brass pendant light fitting, as well as unique glassware using repurposed crystal bowls bonded to marble bases.

“DS17’s design for Beta is absolutely stunning and we always knew we were creating something pretty special,” says Arthur Balayannis, CEO of the Hellenic Club. “Now the rest of the design world knows that too.”

Beta Bar serves Greek-inspired cocktails matched with meze dishes by executive chef Peter Conistis, who also oversees the menu at Alpha.
