Two Australian bars score One Pin rating with The Pinnacle Guide

The new global recognition system for bars, The Pinnacle Group is aiming to become the bar industry’s most respected accolade for excellence, and the first results have been published with just two Australian bars recognised.

The Pinnacle Group awards pins to the world’s best bars, with a 1 (excellent), 2 (outstanding) or 3 (exceptional) system.

Australian bars Maybe Sammy and El Primo Sanchez are the only two local bars to score, with both being awarded One Pin. So far, just 25 bars in the world have received One pin, 12 have received Two pins, and none have received Three pins.

Speaking about another global recognition, Co-Founder of the Maybe Group, Stefano Cantino told Bars and Clubs: “We are very proud to be the only two venues in Australia to have received a pin.

“It’s a testament to the level of our drinks program, our hospitality and the atmosphere of drinking in these two bars.

“Being recognised by The Pinnacle Guide for the hard work our teams at El Primo Sanchez and Maybe Sammy have put in is very humbling and we hope this achievement helps build the profile of Sydney as a leading cocktail bar destination.”

The Pinnacle Group was founded by Siobhan Payne and Hannah Sharman-Cox, Co-Founders of London Cocktail Week, and Dan Gove, Global Bartending Founder, who said the system promises every deserving establishment a clear path to recognition for its outstanding service and contribution to the bar industry.

“Our vision for The Pinnacle Guide has always been to celebrate the artistry and dedication of bars and bartenders globally,” say Founders Payne, Sharman-Cox and Dove. “Through our PIN rating system, we aim to identify and showcase the most exceptional destinations for drinking cocktails (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

“Submissions for The Pinnacle Guide are an unparalleled opportunity for bars and bartenders to gain widespread recognition and attract a global clientele. We are hugely excited that applications are now open for bars to put their best foot forward.”

The system has initially launched across Australia, Dubai, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Bars from each of these countries were invited to submit applications for a chance to be evaluated and recognised.

The self-nomination process allows bars to showcase what they are most proud of, explaining their systems, methods and behind the scenes infrastructure, before facing a series of anonymous in-person reviews by a judging panel of industry experts, renowned mixologists and discerning bar enthusiasts.

The evaluation process also comprised six assessment modules, including front of house, the drinks program, the venue look and feel, staff management, operations and community.

The Pinnacle Guide says it has a transparent approach which aims to give bars of all sizes and locations a level playing field in celebrating excellence.
