Sydney pub brings Florida feel to refurbished rooftop bar

The Light Brigade Woolhara has relaunched its rooftop bar, with a design inspired by the pool club at Miami’s Goodtime Hotel.

Four storeys above the busy streets of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, The Light Brigade’s rooftop bar offers panoramic city views. The relaunch of the rooftop bar is accompanied by a redesign that evokes the relaxed vibe of Florida pool clubs.

Bayfield Hotel Group COO Kaine Bayfield said it felt like the right time to refurbish.

“Brigade Rooftop has been open for over six years and it was time to elevate the space,” Kaine explained. “It’s such a beautiful spot and it deserved a look and feel that was in-keeping with the location and setting.”

The updated space was designed by Kristy McGregor, who also worked on the Manly Wharf Hotel. Kristy was inspired by the “pastel pinks, greens and terracotta tones of the pool club at the Goodtime Hotel in Miami.” Her aim was to “respect the historical elements of the iconic art deco red brick and create a cosy yet socially exciting space through luxurious contemporary outdoor furniture and finishes that have a texture and a warmth.”

The rooftop is open from noon to midnight, serving a range of bespoke cocktails and a wood-fire menu. The cocktail menu features twists on the classics as well as a focus on spice. The classic spritz is elevated with options such as limoncello and mediterranian gin, and the signature cocktails have a kick to them, with ingredients like chilli salt and jalapeño-infused gin.

The rooftop’s food menu was overseen by Bayfield Hotel Group’s Executive Chef Justin Schott, who has previously worked with Mike McEnearney’s Kitchen by Mike, and Rockpool Bar & Grill. The menu features several share plates and makes ample use of the wood-fire oven.

According to Kaine, the relaunch has already proven successful.

“Trade since the refresh has been great, the sun has been shining and the stadium has re-opened down the road. I can’t think of a better spot on a beautiful day at sunset,” he concluded.
