The Dead Rabbit in NYC is closed ‘until further notice’ due to fire and water damage, after a fire broke out on its block over the weekend.
In a post to the bar’s Facebook page, The Dead Rabbit Team wrote: “This morning a fire was reported on our block.
“We’re still getting details, but The Dead Rabbit received considerable fire and water damage and as a result will be closed until further notice. Fortunately no one has been hurt.”
The Dead Rabbit is a frequent sight on the various best bars lists, having been named ‘World’s Best Bar 2016’ at the annual countdown of the World’s 50 Best Bars and ‘World’s Best Cocktail Bar 2015’ at Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards.
In a later post, The Dead Rabbit team thanked all who have leant their support and encouragement “from all over the world” and promised regular updates.
“It’s a great to know you’re thinking of us,” reads the post. “It’s obviously a very anxious time for us all, but we’ll get through it. After all, The Rabbit was born in a hurricane.
“So we’ll keep posting here as regularly as we can, staying positive and keeping the faith. In the meantime, raise a glass to us if you get a chance and wish us well. We’ll take it from here.”
