Melbourne’s The Rum Diary Bar sold

The Rum Diary Bar in Fitzroy has been sold.

Hamish Goonetilleke opened the small 60pax bar on Melbourne’s famous Brunswick Street in January 2013 and quickly grew it to become one of the leading rum bars in Australia.

Goonetilleke announced the sale in an email in which he thanked the industry for its support and also confirmed that Beneath Driver Lane as well as Rum Diary Spiced Rum will be continuing independently.

The Rum Diary Bar was the birthplace for the Spiced Rum of the same name, which Goonetilleke and brand ambassador (and now partner in the business) Daniel Monk will continue to operate.

Goonetilleke and Monk aim to continue to grow their Rum Diary Spiced Rum business nationally and are also planning to launch an ‘Experimental Kitchen’, interactive space in Melbourne’s CBD in the near future.

The bar will keep operating as The Rum Diary Bar, with new owner Jacob Goss (formerly Penny Young) also promising to keep the shelves well stocked with a wide selection of rum from around the world, continuing to fly the flag for rum in Australia.
