Dandelyan named World’s Best Bar

Dandelyan has claimed the World’s Best Bar Award at The World’s 50 Best Bars awards 2018, revealed at a ceremony at the Roundhouse in London last week.

Claiming the No.1 position, Dandelyan also earned the title of Best Bar in Europe. After debuting on the list at No.50 in 2015, Dandelyan jumped to No.3 in 2016, then edged its way to No.2 in 2017.

Created by forward-thinking cocktail creator and bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, the focus of Dandelyan is to bring a stylish neighbourhood vibe to the glamour of the Mondrian Hotel on London’s Southbank, with sustainability and nature to the fore. Since opening in September 2014, Dandelyan has launched five cocktail menus all with a focus on botany.

Overall, the 2018 edition of the list was less successful for Australian bars than in recent years, with Melbourne’s iconic Black Pearl landing at No.30 as the only Aussie bar in the top 50.

In 2017, the Fitzroy bar came in at No.22, with The Baxter Inn also cracking the top 50 at No.45; back in 2016, Baxter took 12th position, Black Pearl came 22nd and Bulletin Place 46th.

In response to again being named Best Bar in Australasia, Black Pearl took to social media, posting: “Once again so humbled to be recognised by @50bestbars to be included on this list of legends!! Shout out to everyone involved, you know who you are. Let the good times roll”.

The publishing of the top 50 follows the reveal of the 51-100 list a fortnight ago, where The Baxter Inn, Bulletin Place and Above Board appeared.

Overall, the 2018 list features 12 new bars, with 10 making their debut and two returning to the list. Unsurprisingly, the UK and USA lead the list, each featuring 10 bars.

In Asia, Singapore leads the charge, with five bars featured. Manhattan (No.3) enters the top three and claims the title of Best Bar in Asia, followed by  by Atlas (No.8), Operation Dagger (No.23) and 28 HongKong Street (No.34), while Native jumps 34 places to No.13 to take the Highest Climber Award.
