Grants available for Greater Sydney night-life districts

Bars and businesses within Greater Sydney that want to bring dynamic and unique night-time precincts to life can now apply for grants of up to $200,000 to help realise their vision.

The 4.75m Uptown Grant Program is part of the NSW Government’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy for Greater Sydney, and 24-Hour Economy Commissioner Michael Rodrigues said this is the next stage in helping to establish more vibrant night-time hubs.

“This program will cement Sydney’s position as a world-class night-time destination by supporting the formation of local business communities, and facilitate their growth into thriving, safe and diverse 24-hour hubs,” Michael said.

“NSW is already home to an exciting and vibrant night-time economy and Uptown will boost the profile of areas with a rich array of experiences for visitors and the wider Sydney community to enjoy.”

The funding call-out follows the success of last year’s Uptown Accelerator, which saw more than 150 businesses take part in a five-week program before 23 teams pitched their ideas to potential corporate and government partners at a District Showcase.

Michael added: “The Accelerator and Showcase demonstrated how willing like-minded businesses are to collaborate, and this second stage of Uptown is now open to support teams from across Greater Sydney to attract visitors to their area after dark.

“The Uptown funding will be used by teams to fast-track the resources required to get their ideas off the ground and share the unique story of their district.”

Applications for the Uptown Grant Program close on March 9, 2023.
