Six-Tricks Founders Chris Macklin and Teagan Peake

Central Gold Coast is welcoming a new addition to its distillery scene with the launch of Six-Tricks Distilling Co this month. Set to open its doors on Saturday 18 November, the full-service rum and whiskey distillery also houses a cocktail bar and tasting room having undergone a $2million transformation.

Founded by Gold Coast locals Chris Macklin and Teagan Peake, the Broadbeach distillery holds capacity for 100 customers across its indoor bar, sunset deck and private cask hall.

“We want to offer locals and visitors to the Gold Coast an immersive distillery and drinks experience, with education at the forefront, so our guests can be a part of the journey and understand the process from raw ingredients to exceptionally crafted cocktails,” says Chris.

“Our city is renowned for its vibrant bars and dining offerings and we look forward to expanding this landscape with our distillery and cocktail venue,” added Teagan.

“Our venue strikes the perfect balance between intimacy and grandeur, and we’re thrilled to finally welcome the community through our doors when we launch in the coming weeks.”

With more than 14 years of experience in the hospitality industry under his belt, Head Bartender James Burrell hopes to bring a fresh outlook to the Gold Coast bar scene.

“Our Head Bartender, James, brings with him an arsenal of inspiration, promising to introduce an exciting blend of tastes and styles that will captivate local palates,” added Chris.

“James has worked across a diverse portfolio of live music venues, high energy dive bars, restaurants featuring outstanding drinks programs, and cosy, specialised cocktail bars and wine locales.

“Through James’ extensive experience, he has absorbed a rich tapestry of flavours and techniques, and this has ignited a deep passion for innovation in his field.

“Our talented mixologists are creating soda, syrups, and tinctures from scratch, and to top it off, we use garnishes grown in our garden located onsite.

“From the distillation process of our spirits to the mixology mastery behind our bar, the magic will happen right here for all to see.”

In addition to the new distillery, Chris and Teagan have secured a second warehouse dedicated to ageing rum and whiskey barrels.

“We are proudly a local business and our on-site production is the heartbeat of our venue. Not only does this allow us to take full control of our production process, it also gives us the freedom to be creative with the spirits we deliver to market,” says Chris.

“We pride ourselves on our commitment to handmade craftmanship, we make exceptional spirits and want to showcase these in a premium and upmarket environment.”

In addition to his 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Chris has spent the last eight years honing his craft and flair for distilling in his private distillery. Less than a month out from the launch, Chris explains that the Six-Tricks Distilling team have already set their sights on disrupting the global market.

“Currently, Australia isn’t globally renowned for its spirits, but craft distilleries here on the Gold Coast and all around the country are changing that.

“The Australian spirits scene has experienced a remarkable surge in recent years, with a growing community of passionate artisans redefining the spirit industry and we are excited to join this movement when we enter the market.”

Alongside the opening of the new venue, Six-Tricks Distilling Co is making a distinctive entrance to the market with its Silver and Spiced Sugar Cane Spirit.

“Our decision to debut with this exceptional spirit is deeply rooted in our country’s rich history and thriving sugar cane industry.”
