Willie Smiths announced as Dark Mofo cider partner

Willie Smiths Organic Cider has been announced as the official cider supplier for Dark Mofo 2017.

The rapidly growing annual winter event kicked off in Hobart on Thursday and is expected to attract over 300,000 people during the two-week period.

Thanks to the partnership, visitors will be able to purchase Willie Smiths cider at Dark Mofo bars throughout the festival.

Sam Reid, Willie Smith’s Co-Founder, is a big supporter of the Dark Mofo event and said: “Dark Mofo has been enormously successful in bringing people together to celebrate all that Tasmania has to offer during winter.

“It’s only fitting that Willie Smith’s ‘Famous Hot Spiced Cider’ will also be available to help people stay warm during the festival!”

Willie Smiths will also have a stall at the Dark Mofo + City of Hobart Winter Feast, the annual banquet that is the culinary centrepiece of Dark Mofo.

Dark Mofo are reciprocal sponsors of Willie Smith’s own winter event as well, the Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival.

Now in its fourth year, the festival is held at the Willie Smith’s Apple Shed at Grove in the Huon Valley, from July 14-16.

“If you haven’t sung to an apple tree whilst banging pots and pans by firelight lately, head to the Huon Valley to celebrate the region’s apple picking history and join in the ages-old tradition of wassailing – basically scaring nasties out of the orchard’s cider trees to enjoy a bumper autumn crop,” reads a description of the event.

Compared to a ‘Burning Mid-Winter Man’ thanks to this underlying pagan ritual element, the festival will hope to surpass the roughly 13,000-strong crowd that attended in 2016.
