Mezcal Mini-Fest returns to Melbourne and Sydney

Mezcal Mini-Fest will return to Melbourne and Sydney in late March, bringing one of the world’s rarest and most mysterious spirits from rural Mexico to the air-conditioned comfort of Hotel Jesus and Tio’s.

Now in its fourth year, the free event will feature a dozen independent suppliers showcasing 50-plus expressions of mezcal – plus, in Melbourne, guests are able to purchase bottles of their new favourites direct on the day.

Mezcal Mini-Fest will take over Hotel Jesus in Collingwood on 24 March, before migrating north of the border a week later to Tio’s Cerveceria in Surry Hills on 31 March.

The teams at both Tio’s and Mamasita/Hotel Jesus are well-known for championing their love of all things agave, and will be doing so throughout the month leading up to the event.

“This is the best opportunity to speak to and learn one-on-one from the folks that source, import and the sell the booze (and in some cases make it and own the labels),” said Mamasita’s Nick Peters. “No judgement, just spreading the agave love and having a drink and a chat together.

“When the legends from Tio’s come down we tend to pull out a few things from our super secret stash (the bottles we’ve bought home in our backpacks) and they do the same when we’re in Sydney.

“Think mezcal made from plants that take 20+ years to mature, distilled in clay pots at less than 100 litres at a time.”

Mezcal Mini-Fest is supported by Mextrade, Vanguard, Bebidas Global, Proof & Company, De Vino Mezcal, 3two1 drinks, Casa de Vinos and Artisan Handcrafted.
