Oxford Street welcomes new all-in-one venue

Kissuu is a new two-level Japanese bar, restaurant and disco which has been opened on Sydney’s iconic Oxford Street by former Nobu chef Adam Burke with music curator and DJ Richy Penny and Paul Schulte, the man behind Hunger Group.

Paul brought Adam and Richy together to enable the experienced and creative minds to conceptualise this new venue. And he has used that experience in creating a Japanese menu that is designed to offer food to be shard and that suits a fun night out.

“This menu is all about using fresh ingredients, having fun and making delicious and creative dishes. My unique style draws inspiration from my extensive travels around the world and my Burmese heritage to create Japanese dishes that celebrate local, seasonal and native ingredients,” Adam said.

The cocktail and wine list is short, sharp and once again created with a fun night in mind. There are lucky cocktails that come with a game of fortune, party margys, and Kissuu signatures like the ‘F*ck me in Shibuya’ with Tanqueray, St. Germain, hibiscus and rose syrup, yuzu and lime, the ‘Twisted Geisha’ with Tanqueray, sake, lychee and lemon, and the ‘Next to the Koi Pond’ with coconut washed Casamigos blanco, yuzu, lime and basil.

Music is also a huge part of Kissuu’s ethos and Richy is bringing in some of Sydney’s finest selectors and DJs who will be playing funked up edits of Diana Ross, Gibson Brothers and Candi Station that you would have heard on a night out at Studio 54, then as the party vibes start to escalate it will naturally evolve to Disco House.

Richy says: “Disco music lends itself perfectly to getting a sexy Japanese eatery grooving. We are going to have our guests shifting in their seats, then as the night goes on, the volume will go up and the dance floor will come to life.”

The two-level venue offers a 40-seat restaurant downstairs and a futuristic room upstairs with red neon trim that illuminates the walls, plush golden orange lounges and tables made to move around to make more room for dancing.

“The intimate space makes it feel like you’re at the most epic house party with 100 of your closest friends and with our international connections, depending on who is in town, you never know who you could catch playing,” Richy adds.

Paul said he had brought Richy and Adam together to bring something new to Sydney’s late-night scene.

“It’s been an incredible experience to work with these extremely talented and passionate entrepreneurs who collectively understand the perfect mix of food, drinks and music that Sydney has been craving. You don’t see a lot of party bars in Sydney like you do in other major cities around the world and we wanted to fill that gap in the market here,” Paul said.

Monthly Sunday brunch parties will soon be added to the mix and the Kissuu experience will expand beyond its four walls for some soon-to-be-announced parties and events over the coming months.
