Melbourne’s Bar Americano heading for Sydney residency

Sydneysiders will soon be able to enjoy the delights of Melbourne’s iconic small bar, Bar Americano, at Bondi’s Icebergs Bar in partnership with Bacardi-Martini Australia (BMA).

Bar Americano famously holds only 10 people standing and that concept will be recreated at Icebergs, with room for just seven seated or 10 standing guests. Iceberg’s Maurice Terzini and Bar Americano’s Matt Bax came up with the concept of creating a bar within a bar over a few Negronis in Venice.

And now the intimate space will be available at Icebergs for individual and group bookings from Thursday 31 March through to Sunday 1 May, featuring cocktails including Bacardi-Martini’s premium spirit brands, Tequila Patrón, Grey Goose Vodka and Bombay Sapphire Gin.

Bacardi-Martini’s Marketing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Sarah Nichols said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Bacardi-Martini Australia to have three of its of premium brands at Bondi’s iconic Icebergs Bar, with the backdrop of one of Australia’s best views.

“Tequila Patrón, Grey Goose Vodka and Bombay Sapphire Gin perfectly compliment the incredible drinks menu Matt Bax has curated.

“Bar Americano will give cocktail lovers an intimate experience by receiving unmatched service and the upmost care and quality into the signature cocktails they know and love, as well as adding a few surprises along the way.”

Matt’s creativity is always on display at Bar Americano with a drinks menu featuring just eight to 10 cocktails per night, which reflect the season and with every sip unveiling layers and secrets that Matt describes as “simple” classics.

The Icebergs menu will reflect Matt’s ground-breaking bartending with a drinks menu of eight classic cocktails using the BMA premium spirits.

The menu includes:

SWEET

  • Bombolone
    • The tart Tuscan wonder. House Patron Limoncello, Amaro Americano, Italian Aperitivi and fresh lemon all charged with icy DOC Prosecco. Bold, refreshing and ridiculously Italian.
  • No. 8 Mimosa
    • Fermented Ruby Red Grapefruit, House Grapefruitchello. Italian Bitters, Grey Goose Vodka, all charged with DOC Prosecco.

SOUR

  • Aviation
    • Floral Bombay Sapphire Gin, fresh lemon and perfumed aromatic cherry.
  • Rick Dalton
    • Inspired by Rick’s Hollywood Poolside Blending. Patrón Silver Tequila, Spaghetti Western herbal liqueurs, Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum and fresh-pressed lime. Frozen and blended, of course.

SPICE

  • Americano
    • The bar’s namesake, the drink that inspired the Negroni and one they say probably still trumps it. A bittersweet symphony of Italian Martini & House vermouths, Northern Italian Aperitvi and a refreshing twist of citrus.
  • Antica Fashionista
    • A homage to Mr Terzini. A (very Italian) version of the classic Old Fashioned. Whiskies, Amaro Americano, aged & spiced fruit gum syrup with aromatic bitters.

DRY

  • Negroni
    • Many say this is the best in the world but can bar talk be relied upon? A simple but secret blend of Bombay Sapphire Gin, Martini, House Vermouths & Italian Bitters.
  • 2+2=5 Martini
    • Catch it before it disappears like the rest of today’s culture, down the memory hole. Curated by the Ministry of Truth. Bombay Sapphire Gin, Grey Goose Vodka + House Vermouths, Disputed Territory Bitters = 5.
