Free $20 tips for hospitality workers

After a tough year that saw weekly hospitality shifts regularly cut as venues tussled with lockdowns and restrictions, Aussie fintech Slyp is looking to say ‘thanks’ to staff and spread some Christmas cheer as venues reopen to the public.

Slyp is saying thank you by giving back a $20 tip on behalf of NAB customers – at no cost to them – in an initiative that is being rolled out in over 90 venues across the ACT, NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

For the remainder of December Slyp will tip hospitality partners $20 for their staff every time a Slyp Smart Receipt from the venue is viewed in the NAB app.

To participate, venue patrons need to have Smart Receipts activated in their NAB app, pay with their eligible NAB card and view the Slyp Smart Receipt in their mobile banking app. A $20 tip will then be added to the venue’s tip jar, at no cost to the customer, going straight into the pockets of hospitality staff.

Paul Weingarth, Co-Founder and CEO at Slyp, said: “The experience of going for a meal or a coffee with friends has changed dramatically over the last 18-months, but what has stood out is the patience and resilience of those hospitality workers who have made sure we can all get back to enjoying pubs and restaurants in the safest way possible. As we return to normality over this Christmas period, we want to give back to hospitality staff who we know have worked so hard to get us here.

“Slyp Tips is a simple way for restaurant-goers to give something to venue staff who have been doing it tough through the pandemic, without feeling the dent in their own pocket. Add to that the environmental impact of reducing paper receipt output during the busiest time of year and we have a win-win scenario.”

There’s no minimum spend with the program, so anything from a coffee with a mate to an entire Christmas lunch with co-workers will still see Slyp add to the venue’s tip jar.

Chris Tate of Pablo & Rusty’s, one the venues taking part, said: “Seeing CBDs come back to life after prolonged periods of quiet is exciting as a consumer, and a relief as a business. The past twelve months have been extremely tough as restrictions and lockdowns dragged on, so it’s exciting to head into the Christmas period with some sense of normalcy.

“We’re a cashless business, so partnering with Slyp has been a natural step towards a completely contact-free experience for our customers. For them to be supporting hospitality workers in such a positive way is really meaningful. Pabo & Rusty’s wouldn’t be what it is without our staff, so we’re thrilled to be participating in Slyp Tip and sending everyone home with a little extra this year.”
