‘This is why we need mixologists’

The Super Bowl is sometimes as well known for its adverts as it is for the sporting spectacle, well maybe to those who don’t appreciate the particulars of Gridiron.

The game often sees A-list celebs popping up on screen during breaks in the action and this year was now exception.

In showing their appreciation for the skill and genius of mixologists Diddy, David Beckham and Ryan Reynolds brought their spirits together, mixing a terrible cocktail for a good cause.

Diddy is the ambassador for Deleon Tequila while Beckham and Reynolds have the same role for Haig Club Whisky and Aviation American Gin respectively.

The ad, narrated by Reynolds, says the ambassadors have mixed a special cocktail for the Super Bowl, featuring the three spirits as well as “botanicals and natural ingredients from Tampa Bay and Kansas City”.

The cocktail is a disaster, with hilarious reactions from the trio, with Beckham ultimately saying: “seriously, why did we think we could do this,” and Diddy adding, “that’s why we’ve got to leave this to the mixologists.”

Diageo, parent company for the three brands, says in the ad ‘This is why we need mixologists’ and highlights it is donating US$1m to the Bartender’s Benevolent Fund, Another Round, Another Rally and Drinks Trust UK to support the bartending community.

The company is also funding the $11.5m Bundaberg Rum Raising the Bar initiative in Australia, with some funds still available for venues.
